Backup Software

Backup Software
There are many backup tools on the market to automatically copy images (or any files for that matter) from one drive to another. These two are my preferred choices because they are affordable, do a good job, and maybe have some unique feature that sets them apart. You might have other favourites. If so, add to this thread and tell us why you like them.

Second Copy

This is a very simple backup util;ity but it works well and is easy to use to use. Though it may be set to preform backups at scheduled times, it has the ability to constantly monitor for new or changed files in selected folders and back them up without having to wait for that overnight backup run. It does this using 'spare' CPU cycles so that the copying is done in the background without slowing you down while you do other jobs on the computer.

12Backup

I must admit that I don't like the way this product is marketed as part of a series of suites called 12Ghosts since it makes the software look like toy software but it does the job. Like Second Copy, it can automatically detect new or changed files and back them up automatically but it also has the ability to save versions of a file. So, it is possible to recover the version you had yesterday, the day before, last week, last month and so on. I wouldn't recommend this for large image files since it will quickly eat into your available disc space but for letters and other documents, it is a useful feature.

RE: Backup Software
I have a Mac desktop and use Time Machine to backup my computer. It works great in the background and I can go to backups according to the days. I can go to how my computer was a week ago or a month ago or even a year ago. It's pretty cool and it's free.
